Wide Awake in Europe is an upcoming live extended play (EP) by rock band U2. The EP features three live tracks on a 12-inch vinyl record, taken from three different concerts during the U2 360° Tour in 2009 and 2010.[1]
The EP will be released by Universal on 26 November 2010 (Black Friday), only in independent record shops in the United States, as part of the "Back to Black Friday" program. The program was organized by the creators of Record Store Day, with the objective to draw customers to independent record shops on Black Friday and throughout the 2010 holiday shopping season, as opposed to big-box stores and shopping malls.[1] Wide Awake in Europe was created exclusively for "Back to Black Friday", along with over 40 releases from other artists, and has been limited to 5000 copies.[1][2][3] Pre-orders for the EP were available from online-retailer The Ideal Copy, but had sold out by the end of October, almost a month prior to the release.[4] New Jersey-based retailer Vintage Vinyl Records described the release as an "Indie-Exclusive Black Friday item", and also sold pre-orders of the EP online, but had ended pre-orders early to ensure copies were available following its release.[5]
